Joining at 4

Admission to the First School (40 places)

Girls enter the Reception class at the age of 4. Thus, for September 2020 entry, girls must have a date of birth between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016.

We register applications for entry in September in the period between 1st May and 9th November of the previous year. Therefore registration for 2020 entry will open on 1st May 2019.

We are looking for potential. It is not necessary to tutor your child either to secure a place at the School, or to keep up once they are here. Once we have offered them a place, we look forward to sharing a glass of champagne with your daughter at their Valedictory when they are 18 and ready to embark on the next stage of their education.

Our entry process is in two stages and takes place in January:

  • Stage 1 – ‘Play’ activities testing school readiness which last about an hour.  Children are grouped by age and there are about 12-16 children per group. Activities usually include pre-school tasks such as colouring, cutting and sticking.
  • Stage 2 – A smaller group of girls are recalled for the second round which includes a group activity and then some puzzles and games one to one with a member of our teaching staff.

We are looking for girls with a curiosity for learning and the confidence to have a go at something they haven’t seen before. They need to be able to listen to and follow simple instructions as part of a group or one to one with an adult.

Girls spend three years in the First School and move up to the Lower School in Year 3 when they are aged seven.
